Sessions

Elevating and Celebrating Effective Teachers and Teachings seeks to help our professionals learn the tools they will need to lead from the classroom, not leave their classrooms.  To this end there are both break out sessions and plenary sessions designed teach ways to maximize classroom instruction and leadership opprotunities.

Plenary Sessions

There will be two whole group sessions.  One on celebrating the successes of the MET Project with Danni Resnick, Head of the MET Project in Hillsborough County, and one to help participants build a roadmap for what teacher leadership will look like at their sites with Rob Kriete and Julie Hiltz, Teacher Leaders at Eisenhower Middle School and Lutz Elementary School

Colleague Circles

Strategic problem solving groups. You will be placed with others from your region and grade level and with a leader at your table you will share strategies and stories and create a plan to boost morale and increase teacher leadership at your schools.

Guest Speakers

Throughout the day you will hear from Irvin Scott, Deputy Director of Education for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Ky Vu, Senior Program Officer for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Cassandra Mattison, Hillsborough County Teacher of the Year, 2013,  Michelle Miller, Teacher Leader, Brandon High School, and Reggie Dabbs, professional speaker with The Youth Alliance.

​Breakout Sessions

Everyone will cycle through the four breakout sessions which hgihlight four areas of potential impact, the classroom, the PLC, the community, and the school house.  Each session has a page with session materials.

Online Continuing Support

The discussion board forum on this site has threads for continuing discussion for each colleague circle, breakout session, and plenary session.  Use this space to ask for and give assitance and collaboration to all your ECET2 colleagues

Speakers

Danni Resnick

MET Project Supervisor

Danni Resnick earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Florida and a Masters of Arts in Teaching Middle School Math from the University of South Florida. She previously served the district as a middle school math teacher and a district resource teacher for middle and high school. Resnick is currently the Supervisor for the Measures of Effective Teaching (MET) Project.  She worked with over 700 teachers in Hillsborough County to help test measures of effective teaching.  Danni is currently implementing some of those measures to provide teachers with additional feedback including student surveys and the use of videotaping for self reflection and professional development.  

Julie Hiltz

Lutz Elementary School

Julie Hiltz graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications/Public Relations in 1998. She earned a Master of Arts in Library/Information Science from USF in 2002. After graduation, Hiltz was hired as the Oak Park Elementary Media Specialist. She transferred to Lutz Elementary in 2003. She serves as the Chair for the Lutz Elementary School Advisory Committee and is a member of the Lutz Problem Solving Leadership Team. Hiltz is a member of the American Library Association, the Florida Association for Media in Education and the Hillsborough Association of School Library Media Specialists, for which she has served as a board member. She is working this year in a hybrid role as a Teacherpreneur with the Center for Teaching Quality. In that role, she teaches in the morning and has release time to learn and lead in the afternoon.

Rob Kriete

Eisenhower Middle School

Rob Kriete is a middle school language arts teacher at Eisenhower Middle School and teacherpreneur in his 20th year in education.  Kriete graduated from the University of South Florida in 1994 and earned his M.Ed in Educational Leadership in 1998.  As a teacherpreneur, he devotes his mornings to his middle school students and works afternoons on advocating for teacher leadership across the state.  He is currently working on a communication project around the Common Core to help parents, teachers, and educational stakeholders better understand why the standards are changing and how this will affect students.  Kriete is a strong proponent of effective PLC's, truly believing that collaboration is key to fundamental educational change. He has worked with professional development to create and give trainings to Hillsborough County Teachers.

Michelle Miller

Brandon High School

Michelle Miller is an ESE teacher at Brandon High School. She graduated from Armwood High School, The University of Florida, and The University of South Florida, earning her M.Ed in Educational Leadership. Miller works in a co-teach model to provide services to students with disabilities in a general education  and resource setting.  She coordinates the school's High School/High Tech program, allowing ESE students on a standard diploma post secondary opportunities, and is Department Head for the ESE program, serves as the school's Graduation Coordinator, and CTA Representative. She is dedicated to helping each student develop a goal and dream for his/her future, regardless of circumstances. ​

Cassandra Mattison

Spoto High School

Cassandra Mattison is a proud product of Hillsborough Schools.  She holds a B.A. in English Education and M.A. in Reading from the University of South Florida, and is a nine year veteran National Board Certified teacher. Mattison is the English Department Chair, Advanced Placement Literature Teacher, and Writing Resource Teacher for Spoto High School. She implemented a school-wide writing plan resulting in FCAT scores to be in the top ten in the district and her Advanced Placement passing rates to more than double. She led her student-based Relay for Life team to raise over $10,000, guided efforts to collect 6,000 pounds of food for Metropolitan Ministries, headed a seat belt campaign, sponsored a collection for a domestic violence shelter, organized care packages for troops, and a ran a clothing drive for low-income elementary students. Her love for academic excellence and spirit of service has inspired dozens of graduates to pursue teaching careers.

Reggie Dabbs

The Youth Alliance

Reggie Dabbs has been speaking to students in public schools for the past 22 years. Major news media call him the number one Public School Speaker in America and every year he speaks to millions of teens.  Born to an unwed teenager who at one time considered abortion as a viable option for solving her “problem,” Dabbs considers himself fortunate to be alive. Raised by foster parents, Reggie understands what it is like for kids who struggle with adversity.  From being a “Problem” to an unwed teen, Reggie is fast becoming one of the most in-demand speakers who helps teens meet and overcom their problems head-on.
